Elm

The Elm baseboard powers a generation of ARM64 ChromeOS convertibles built around the MediaTek MTK8173C platform, offering efficient performance and long battery life for lightweight computing tasks. These devices were designed to bridge productivity and mobility, featuring touchscreen support, tablet functionality, and a fanless design that kept systems quiet and portable. Elm-based convertibles excelled at everyday browsing, cloud-first workflows, Android apps, and digital note-taking, making them popular in education and casual use scenarios where versatility and battery endurance mattered more than raw processing power.

While not intended for demanding workloads or extensive multitasking, Elm devices offered a smooth ChromeOS experience during their prime and helped broaden ARM adoption across the platform. With an Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date of August 2026, they remain supported for a bit longer but are approaching the end of their official lifecycle. As software expectations continue to grow, users may begin to notice limitations, particularly with more intensive apps or Linux workloads. However, for everyday browsing and tablet-style use, Elm systems continue to provide a capable and flexible ChromeOS experience.
