Edgar

The Edgar baseboard powered a group of affordable x86_64 Chromebooks built around Intel’s low-power Celeron processors, including the Celeron N3160. These devices were designed for everyday tasks such as web browsing, document work, and online learning, offering solid efficiency and battery life without premium hardware costs. Edgar systems played a role in expanding ChromeOS adoption in schools and entry-level consumer markets, delivering a simple and lightweight computing experience for users who primarily relied on cloud services and basic applications.

With an Auto Update Expiration (AUE) of June 2022, Edgar-based Chromebooks have reached the end of their official support lifespan. While they remain capable of handling light, single-purpose workloads, modern web standards and more demanding applications can push their hardware to its limits. These devices can still find value in offline use, experimentation, or as secondary machines, but users seeking long-term performance and security will benefit from transitioning to a more recent ChromeOS platform.
