Celes
The Celes baseboard powered a generation of entry-level Chromebooks built to make ChromeOS accessible to budget-conscious users and educational deployments. Based on the x86_64 architecture, these devices typically featured lower-end Intel processors, modest memory configurations, and basic display panels - enough to support browsing, online coursework, and cloud-first productivity without unnecessary complexity. Their design emphasized affordability, portability, and simplicity, proving effective for classrooms and casual users who primarily relied on lightweight web applications.
As software demands grew, however, Celes devices began to show performance limitations, especially when multitasking or running more advanced web and Android applications. With an Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date of June 1, 2022, they are now outside their official support window and no longer receive ChromeOS security updates or features. While still functional for basic offline tasks or use with alternative lightweight operating systems, users looking for smoother performance and continued support should consider more modern ChromeOS platforms.
