Buddy

The Buddy baseboard was developed for a niche group of Chromebase all-in-one systems, delivering a simple, unified desktop experience through ChromeOS. Leveraging the x86_64 architecture, Buddy-based devices typically integrated display, computing hardware, and peripherals into a single clean design optimized for classrooms, kiosks, shared workstations, and customer-facing environments. These systems provided dependable performance for basic productivity and web access, emphasizing ease of management and reduced physical footprint compared to traditional desktops.

Given its hardware era and intended audience, Buddy systems were not designed for heavy workloads but instead excelled in streamlined environments where simplicity and reliability were key. With an Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date of June 1, 2021, they are now beyond their support lifecycle and no longer receive ChromeOS updates or security enhancements. While still serviceable for light offline tasks or repurposing through alternative operating systems, modern use cases will benefit from more recent Chromebase platforms.
