Banon

The Banon baseboard was an Intel-based design that catered to lightweight Chromebooks built for basic productivity and educational use. Utilizing an x86_64 architecture, it offered a stable and efficient platform for web browsing, document editing, and streaming while maintaining the hallmark simplicity of ChromeOS. Devices built on Banon prioritized affordability and reliability, often pairing modest processors with eMMC storage and compact displays to create a cost-effective, energy-efficient experience suitable for classrooms and casual users.

While the Banon platform performed admirably for its time, its hardware limitations have become more apparent with the increasing complexity of modern web applications. With its Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date set for June 2022, Banon-based Chromebooks no longer receive official ChromeOS updates or security patches. Although these devices still function well for offline use or as secondary systems, users seeking a smoother experience with newer ChromeOS features or Linux development tools should consider upgrading to a more recent baseboard family.
