Atlas
The Atlas baseboard was developed by Google as a high-end reference design, setting a new standard for ChromeOS hardware capabilities. Powered by an x86_64 architecture, it represented Google’s vision for what a premium Chromebook experience should feel like — sleek, responsive, and powerful enough to rival traditional laptops. The Pixelbook Go, the sole device built on this platform, exemplified refined design and long-term support, with a build quality and component selection focused on performance, portability, and professional appeal.
Atlas also served as a proving ground for forward-thinking ChromeOS advancements such as near-instant wake, high-resolution touch displays, and enhanced Linux container support. Its firmware, drivers, and reference configurations influenced many later ChromeOS devices despite Atlas itself being exclusive to Google’s own hardware line. With an Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date of June 1, 2026, Atlas remains supported for a few more years, continuing to receive full ChromeOS feature and security updates that showcase Google’s best-case implementation of the platform.
