ChromeOS Based on Baseboard

A ChromeOS baseboard is the foundational hardware design that multiple Chromebook models are built upon. Rather than each manufacturer starting from scratch, Google and its partners develop a shared reference design—called a baseboard—that defines the chipset, processor family, and core components like Wi-Fi modules, display controllers, and embedded controllers. Device makers such as Acer, ASUS, Lenovo, and HP then create their own variations based on that same foundation, customizing elements like the case design, keyboard, and display while keeping most of the internal architecture identical.

This database allows you to explore ChromeOS devices grouped by their baseboard, making it easier to identify models that share similar performance, firmware support, and feature sets. Because many Chromebooks built on the same baseboard share nearly identical hardware and kernel configurations, this information is especially useful for troubleshooting, firmware research, Linux compatibility checks, or comparing upgrade potential across brands.
